In boys’ soccer

Monticello 3, Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin 0. Dallas Glauner only needed three saves to earn the shutout in net as his fellow Sages (5-10) scored three times on the other side of the field against the Blue Devils (8-5-1). Isaack Ocadiz, Caleb Wood and Carlos Sabogal found the back of the net, and Sully Beccue added an assist.

Unity 3, Chillicothe IVC 2. The Rockets (6-4-2) got goals from Kolton Black, Nolan Remole and Teaguen Williams to earn the one-goal win. Caden McCaskill and Elle Cheely each recorded an assist, and goalie Joey Young notched eight saves.

In boys’ cross-country

At East Peoria. Mahomet-Seymour edged out Morton by one placement point for the top spot in the 10-team field with four top-10 individual finishers. Augustus Gaudio led the Bulldogs with a runner-up time of 15 minutes, 44.90 seconds, followed by Henry McMurry in fifth (16:10.30). Caleb Mathias won the meet in 15:11.50, more than 30 seconds ahead of the field, to lead Champaign Central to fourth place. Danville finished eighth as a team, just one point back of Macomb.

At St. Joseph. The Uni High boys came away with their third meet win of the season at the 28-team Spartan Classic with a team score of 110 points, 23 ahead of Clinton in second. Ross Kimme was the best finisher for the Illineks in sixth place with a time of 15 minutes, 34.75 seconds, and Cayden Bostic paced the Maroons in 19th at 15:59.41. Host St. Joseph-Ogden took third, led by Jack Fisher‘s ninth-place finish (15:43.97). Sullivan’s Johnathan Iacobazzi was the area’s highest individual finisher in third (15:14.02), leading the Redskins to 22nd. Unity’s Eli Crowe and Camden Fairbanks placed fourth and 10th, respectively, with times of 15:19.69 and 15:44.63 to lead the Rockets to fourth as a team. Blake McLeese (fifth, 15:33.40), Xander Neamtu (seventh, 15:35.04) and David Hornaday (eighth, 15:43.44) each nabbed a top-10 finish to give Tuscola seventh place. La Salette finished in sixth place as a team, Monticello took 10th, St. Thomas More was 17th, Paxton-Buckley-Loda was 18th, Oakwood was 20th, Armstrong-Potomac was 23rd, Chrisman was 26th and Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin was 27th.

In girls’ cross-country

At East Peoria. Four top-10 finishers led Champaign Central to a meet victory, just three placement points ahead of Morton. Keely Richmond led the Maroons in fourth with a time of 20 minutes, 37.80 seconds, and Maria Buzing was close behind in fifth at 21:06.60.

At. St. Joseph. Twenty girls’ teams competed at this year’s Spartan Classic, and the three-time defending Class 1A state champs Unity Rockets bested them all with a team score of 55, clear of second place by 36 points. Emily Decker led the team with a third-place individual time of 16 minutes, 55.13 seconds, and Mackenzie Pound took 10th at 18:18.26. Monticello earned third place as a team, led by Macie Owen in 22nd (19:14.17). Tuscola’s Kate Foltz paced all area runners in runner-up position (16:28.31) to give the Warriors 13th as a team. Savanna Franzen led host St. Joseph-Ogden in eighth (17:54.00) to put the Spartans in eighth. Uni High finished in fifth place collectively, followed by Paxton-Buckley-Loda in seventh, Clinton in ninth, Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin in 12th, St. Thomas More in 14th, Oakwood in 15th, Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond in 16th and Armstrong-Potomac in 18th.
