Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law was hit with a barrage of criticism on Saturday after she made an announcement about her future in politics.
Lara Trump, who was appointed by her father-in-law to be co-chair of the Republican National Committee, announced over the weekend she is no longer in consideration for the role of Senator in Florida.
Trump team members openly floated the idea of Ron DeSantis appointing Lara Trump to replace Marco Rubio as a Senator in Florida after Rubio was appointed to a Cabinet position in Trump’s new administration. She announced she won’t do that over the weekend, resulting in attacks from critics.

Artist Art Candee said, “Lara Trump said she’s removing her name from consideration by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for the Senate seat to replace Marco Rubio. Bye bish!”
Popular conservative influencer Cryptid Politics, a pro-DeSantis account, said DeSantis “likely indicated he was not going to pick Lara. DJT recently indicated as such. RDS might have told them who he will be picking.”
The account added that “this ‘withdrawal’ was announced to save face for all parties.”
“Lara gets to say she withdrew instead of being rejected and DeSantis gets to appoint a Senator from a ‘clear deck’ without Lara being the elephant in the room,” the account wrote.
Former prosecutor Ron Filipkowski chimed in, “Translation: She was just told Desantis isn’t picking her.”
Self-described “political junkie” Russell Drew said, “It’s fun to see Ron DeSantis humiliate the Trumps.”
“Lara Trump knew she wasn’t getting the Senate appointment,” Drew wrote. “Completely unqualified and yes, this is DeSantis getting some much deserved revenge on her father-in-law, who humiliated him and insulted him for months.”
Howard Altman, author of Goodnight, Loon: Poems and Parodies to Survive the Trump Presidency, said, “Lara Trump announced that she will not be a Senator.”
“In other news, I withdraw my name from consideration for the next lead singer of Fleetwood Mac,” Altman also added. “I guess it’s back to her music ‘career’ for Lara.”
