The New York Giants (2-6) will take on the Washington Commanders (6-2) this Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium in their ninth game of the 2024 regular season.
Opening the week, the Giants were listed as 3.5-point home underdogs but that spread has worsened slightly with Big Blue now at +4 as of this writing.
How does the Giants Wire staff see this Week 9 battle shaking out? Hereโs a look at our picks and score predictions:
Dan Benton: Commanders 24, Giants 21
If this game were on the road, I would be much more inclined to pick the Giants. They just consistently play Washington tough, itโs when Daniel Jones shines the brightest, and few trends ever seem to change that. The Giants should have won in Week 2 if not for terrible personnel handling, but this being at MetLife Stadium gives me pause. The Giants are at their worst in front of their own fans for some reason. Still, my heart says Giants but my brain says Washingtonโฆ Barely.
John Fennelly: Commanders 24, Giants 13
It makes no sense to pick the Giants due to their ineffectiveness on offense, especially in the red zone. They are averaging under 15 points per game which is not nearly enough to beat a dynamic team such as Washington this year.
Tyler Henry: Giants 24, Commanders 23
I have a funny feeling the Giants are going to pull this one out. They should have won the first meeting between the two teams. If the Giants had won that game and the Commanders didnโt pull off a crazy Hail Mary last week in the closing seconds, we would be talking about a 4-4 football team the Giants would be hosting on Sunday.
The Giants have owned Washington in recent memory so I find it hard to believe they will lose both games this year. Not in a blowout because thatโs not something the Giants do but I do expect them to get a win Sunday.
Serena Burks: Commanders 24, Giants 21
The Giants and Commanders are an interesting matchup on paper. But execution is where the difference is, and the Giants really havenโt executed well. There appears to be a slowly growing disconnect between Brian Daboll and the locker room, which only results in a lack of trust and effort, and last week we saw that spiral into unforced errors due to a lack of discipline. The Commanders are heavy favorites for a reason, even with the Giants hosting. It might not be a blowout, but the Commanders sweep the Giants this year and win on Sunday.
Jeevan Kirkland: Commanders 30, Giants 17
This may finally be the week Daniel Jones throws a passing touchdown at home. Unfortunately, it will likely not be the week where the Giants get their first home victory. The new-look Commanders with Jayden Daniels are electrifying on offense and will likely take advantage of a suspect Giants secondary. Daniels has been one of the most efficient quarterbacks in 2024 and there is no reason he should slow down in Week 9.
