EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – On Wednesday, community members in Owensboro broke ground on a new indoor sports facility.
Itโs being built for everyone to enjoy team sports inside.
The facility will be complete with one turf field and five basketball courts, all of which can be repurposed to fit various sports and tournament play, including volleyball and pickleball.
The facility hopes to grow the economy in the city by bringing in more sports tourism to an already booming business in Owensboro.
โWe have restaurants, we have amenities that can provide for those patrons whether theyโre here for a tournament and then they can leave and go get a piece of pizza if they like a beer, whatever is going on downtown with the convention center we have multiple other events, so hopefully we can have a mixture of those other events and theyโll have a pleasurable time in Owensboro,โ said Lelan Hancock, assistant city manager for the city of Owensboro.
Renderings, a panorama list, and floorplans for the facility can be found here.
Itโs set to be open for use in June of 2026, weโll let you know when the doors officially open.
