The 2024 high school sports season was an exciting one.
Championship runs, records broken and standout performances across Lenawee County in numerous sports and seasons.
It’ll be a tough act to follow, but 2025 sure looks promising to be even bigger and better.
Here’s a look at what’s ahead for the coming year:
Winter sports
Girls basketball
The winter sports season is well on its way and the excitement will pick up right away in 2025.
The Tecumseh girls are 5-0 and the first three games of the new year are against East Lansing, SEC White rival Chelsea and Division 1 powerhouse Rockford.
Tecumseh will be ranked among the top teams in Division 2 all winter long and will be gunning for a spot at the Breslin Center come March.
Tecumseh isn’t the only girls basketball team off to a strong start.
What we learned:Lenawee County basketball off to strong start as we hit Christmas break
Morenci is undefeated, Blissfield’s only loss is to Tecumseh and Madison’s one loss is to one of Tecumseh’s top competitors in Division 2, Ann Arbor Gabrial Richard.
Boys basketball
The top story on the boys side is Stevie Elam and the Maples, who were 5-0 going into Christmas break. Elam is a scoring machine and one of the top basketball players in the state.
While Elam and Adrian will be a must see and in the mix for the SEC White title, district title and more, they aren’t the only headline.
Onsted is also off to an unbeaten start at 7-0 and will be part of a stacked district in Adrian. The Wildcats are looking strong and have eyes on an incredible fourth-straight LCAA title before heading into the postseason.

Tecumseh is looking to give Adrian some trouble in the SEC White with a strong start of its own at 4-1 going into Christmas break and will also be part of the loaded Adrian district, as will 6-2 Madison.
At Christmas, the five teams in the Adrian district (Adrian, Madison, Onsted, Tecumseh and Milan) are a combined 27-7.
Wrestling
There’s never any shortage of strong wrestling in Lenawee County and this year is especially true.
Hudson has won three-straight Division 4 state championships and the previous two were won by Clinton, which is back in Division 4 after three seasons in Division 3.
The Tigers are ranked No. 1 in the state while the Redwolves are ranked No. 6 and the two will meet in LCAA duals, but aren’t in the same region so both could once again be in the state tournament.
Joining them in the LCAA is Madison, who was ranked as high as No. 9 this season in Division 3. The Trojans have been building for a few years now and with Clinton down in Division 4 and juggernaut Dundee on the opposite side of the bracket, Madison could have path to the state tournament as well.
Individually, Hudson’s Nicholas Sorrow is ranked No. 1 at 126 pounds and will be the favorite to win a third state title in as many years. He won’t be alone though in Lenawee County.

Senior Julien Kimling (138) and freshman Beckett Campbell (144) are also ranked at the top of their weight classes while Clinton’s senior Braylon Long (132) and junior Bryce Randolph (190) are also No. 1 in the state.
Competitive cheer
The Hudson wrestling team isn’t the only winter program on a state-title streak.
The Tigers’ competitive cheer team is looking to make some history this season. Hudson has won five-straight championships, already a record in Division 4, but it’ll look to add a sixth-straight title this season.
Only one program in MHSAA history has won six-straight when Gibraltar Carlson did it from 2011-16. The Tigers will also be looking for title No. 7 overall, becoming the fifth program in MHSAA history to win at least seven titles.

Spring sports
History to be made
There are two spring-sport athletes who look poised to have historic seasons when the snow melts.
Onsted’s Emmry Ross and Clinton’s Aubrey Lauer.
Last spring Ross won the Division 3 team state runner-up title on her own by winning the 400-meter, 800, 1,600 and 3,200 championships.
Ross could become the third girl in MHSAA history to win four state titles twice and she already has eight state titles to her name.
Lauer set a single-season goals record in Lenawee County last year with 75.
After Lauer’s big junior season, she’s up to 158 career goals for the Redwolves. She’s 37 goals shy of Madalyn Freitas’ Lenawee County record and 70 goals shy of the all-time MHSAA record of 228 set by Libby Munoz of Leland (2013-16).
Baseball
Adrian graduated some impactful seniors, including Sean Parker, but the Maples have a lot back to make another SEC White title run and a deep postseason run.
Reigning Lenawee County Player of the Year Tyler Bruggeman is back for the Maples, but he’ll have competition to retain his honor.

Junior Ivan Wilkinson for Sand Creek is a five-tool kind of player and will be looking to lead what’s expected to be a strong Aggies squad this spring.
Division 3 in Lenawee County in particular looks pretty stacked with Blissfield, Clinton, Hudson, Madison and Onsted all looking to be in the mix for the LCAA and more.
Back in Division 2, Tecumseh had a strong start last season with a young squad and will look to challenge Adrian this season for the SEC White.
Softball
It’ll be a transition year on the softball diamond in Lenawee County, especially in Clinton as the perennial power moves on after Kim Phillip stepped down as head coach and her daughter Kendall Phillip graduated and is on to play at Michigan Dearborn.
Lisa Roberts is leading Clinton now and the Redwolves do have plenty back to make the yearly run in the postseason.
Hudson will look to be Clinton’s top competition in the LCAA as far as Lenawee County teams go with many All-County honorees returning.
Tecumseh had a strong season last year as it returned to form and it also has pieces back to make what could be a third girls sports tournament this school year.
Fall sports
Football
Britton Deerfield had a year to remember last season, but with many key pieces coming back it might have only been the start of a great run of seasons for the Patriots.
BD made it to the semifinal last season and will be looking to make it all the way to the Superior Dome next season.
Also bringing a lot back will be Hudson after winning the LCAA title. Grayson Bills busted onto the scene and will look to do even more in his senior season try to get the Tigers back to Ford Field.
Volleyball
Tecumseh made a run all the way to the state championship last season and while it graduated a couple strong seniors, it’ll have a core back to make another run.
Emma Eldred will be back for her senior year and is looking to make it a four-peat for the SEC White title.
