Manchester United advanced in the Women’s FA Cup with a 3-1 quarter-final win over Sunderland.

Scorers:  Galton 7′, Le Tissier 45+2, Toone 90+1′; Griffiths 70′

Man United took control in the early stages and took the lead when Celin Bizet Ildhusøy’s cross was headered in by Leah Galton.

Melvine Malard almost doubled United’s lead when she met Galton’s cross with a half volley that thumped the crossbar.

The hosts remained patient and added a second just before half time, with Maya Le Tissier rising to meet Gabby George’s corner.

Sunderland clawed a goal back with 20 minutes remaining when Louise Griffiths pounced on a tame United clearance and tapped into the net.

It proved to be a consolation as United completed the scoring when Ella Tone

Marc Skinner’s United head through to their third FA Cup quarter-final in three seasons, while the cup dream comes to an end for the Women’s Championship side Sunderland.
