Military veteran and TV host Montel Williams became emotional Wednesday night on CNN during a discussion on Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris’s remarks quelling calls from rally-goers to “lock him up,” referring to Donald Trump.
The panel on “NewsNight” was shown a clip of Harris responding to the chant saying, “Hold on. Here’s the thing. The courts are going to handle that. We’re gonna beat him in November.”
Williams, former host of “The Montel Williams Show” and current host of “Military Makeover With Montel,” praised Harris’ “tenor” of “let’s unite, not divide.”
He called for people to have more civil conversations with those whom they disagree with.
He pointed to the panel itself, made up of left-leaning and right-leaning guests, who “slightly realized that we can turn that beach ball just a little bit and see a different panel. See a different point of view.”

Williams said Harris is focused on trying to highlight unifying factors among Americans, rather than what sows division.
“We ought to pay attention to those people on the fringes who are taking away the wrong message,” he added. “Those people who have some form of mental illness who are taking away the wrong message and saying, ‘If my side doesn’t win, then burn the whole thing down.’ We can’t do this.”
Williams noted there are millions of veterans who are alive, most of whom raised a hand and swore an oath to defend the Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic.
He teared up as he continued, “That’s what I believe in. That’s why I put a uniform on. To protect this for your generation, for your generation,” he said, pointing to various members of the panel.
“Let’s start focusing on how we protect this and stop firing up those idiots who really think they can — because at the end of the day what do you want? You want to eat out of a garbage can? Because that’s what’s going to happen if we go to a civil war. Remember: more deaths in the American Civil War than any other conflict since!”
