D’IBERVILLE, Miss. (WLOX) – The D’Iberville Girls Youth Softball League held opening ceremonies on Saturday morning — but not before unveiling new upgrades at the Rusty Quave Sports Complex.

The city partnered with Machado Patano Design Group to add 48,000 sq. ft. of artificial turf to two fields. The upgrades give the option for youth or high school games to be played while reducing the amount of maintenance and rain-out games.

“We’ve been anticipating this new AstroTurf to come in and it’s a thing of the future,” explained Mayor Rusty Quave. “I think it’ll just add to the excitement. You see all the kids and the smiles on their face.”

“It’s a big economic impact for the city,” noted D’Iberville Parks & Recreation director Troy Saucier.”You know, we bring tournaments in here weekly and these promoters like to be able to not have halts during weekend games and all that kind of stuff and it’s a big impact for the city.”

The city hopes to add turf to two other field at the complex before next year’s opening ceremonies.
