Oh la la! Toronto is in for a touch of Parisian elegance on Thursday, February 29, 2024. Frenchy, a sophisticated yet welcoming bar and brasserie, is situated conveniently in the heart of downtown within the main lobby level of the recently renovated Hilton Toronto. Crafted to be the focal point of the property, Frenchy exudes an atmosphere that seamlessly combines sophistication with a touch of cheekiness. With its effortless indulgence and uncomplicated approach, the eatery promises to be an unforgettable destination.
The Design
Overseen by award-winning studio DesignAgency in conjunction with Barney River, Frenchy features deep banquettes and armchairs that are ideal for celebratory gatherings or hushed conversations. A palette of rich burgundy hues, wood, marble, and florals creates a sense of elegance. The majestic private dining room highlights Frenchy’s wine collection and is the ideal space for meetings, wine tastings and celebratory occasions.
“We envisioned Frenchy as a nexus that would draw visitors and locals to gather and sit comfortably side-by-side,” says Matt Davis, DesignAgency Founding Partner. “The unique result combines the energy of a sidewalk café with the polish of a fine dining experience.”
Frenchy also features a European-inspired lobby bar and lounge, complete with a sweeping oval-shaped bar. As the epicentre of enjoyment, the bar is a top destination for those looking for a taste of European flare. Guests can sip on hand-crafted signature cocktails, Champagne, and a large selection of European wines while enjoying fare, such as crispy olives, escargot vol-au-vent, truffle brie gougères and croque monsieur sliders.
“We wanted to make this hotel and its food and beverage offerings the best they could be so Frenchy would naturally integrate into Toronto’s culinary and hospitality landscape,” says Salim Manji, President of Barney River. “The bar, lounge and restaurant all interplay to create a bustling room reminiscent of the best social havens around the world.”
What’s On the Menu
The menu at Frenchy is classic French with a focus on rich flavour. Simple, delicious, and traditional dishes are created by the culinary team, which is led by Executive Chef Aaron Chen. “When designing the menus, we wanted to ensure that no matter what guests opt to order, they enjoy a culinary experience that perfectly blends comfort with class,” says Aaron. “Every bite at Frenchy should celebrate the essence of French gastronomy with a touch of relaxed elegance.”
Frenchy will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The impressive dinner menu features many French favorites, including oysters and escargots, to mouthwatering mains like a classic bouillabaisse, côte de boeuf for two, gnocchi Parisienne and duck confit cassoulet. Frenchy’s “Avec Frites” section also offers a twist on the classic steak frites.
The list of creative cocktails is the perfect match for any dish. Frenchy’s skilled mixologists blend premium spirits with things like handpicked herbs, fresh fruits, and unique infusions. For example, the Frenchy 75 (a twist on the classic French 75) transforms the traditional gin, Champagne and lemon drink by adding red hibiscus syrup, while the Frou-Frou is an espresso Martini with a tasty pistachio flavour. Frenchy also offers an extensive selection of European wines, beers and non-alcoholic alternatives.
