Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign came out Tuesday with a fiery ad slamming former President Donald Trump on an issue that matters deeply to him: the border. And more specifically, how he worked behind the scenes to tank Republican support for a bipartisan bill that would have helped shore up border security, even as he attacked President Joe Biden for doing nothing about a surge in migrants.

“On the border, the choice is simple,” said the ad’s narrator. “Kamala Harris supports increasing the number of border patrol agents. Donald Trump blocked a bill to increase the number of border patrol agents. Kamala Harris supports investing in new technology to block fentanyl from entering the country. Donald Trump blocked funding for technology to block fentanyl from entering the country. Kamala Harris supports spending more money to stop human traffickers. Donald Trump blocked money to stop human traffickers. Kamala Harris prosecuted transnational gang members and got them sentenced to prison. Trump is trying to avoid being sentenced to prison.”

“There’s two choices in this election: the one who will fix our broken immigration system, and the one who is trying to stop her,” the ad concluded.

Harris’ ad earned an immediate and awed reaction from commenters on social media.

“There’s been an unmistakeable message out of KamalaHQ that had been missing prior,” wrote former GOP strategist Tim Miller. “They are in this to f—ing win it. They are not messing around. They are not getting bogged down by needing to defend record/appease coalition. They want to beat this SOB & its so refreshing.”

“This is the way to do it,” wrote former GOP Latino political consultant and Lincoln Project co-founder Mike Madrid.

“This is the way,” wrote Republican Accountability Project founder and focus grouper Sarah Longwell.

“You might think this is a curious messaging strategy for Harris, but I’m in focus groups as we speak and a voter said in regards to immigration, ‘We have solutions to our problems. The problem is that we have politicians who care more about division than implementing solutions,'” wrote Democratic pollster Matt McDermott.
