We’re proud to be known here for our rich food culture, talented chefs, and exceptional local ingredients. I know our diverse culinary traditions will help inspire the participants, captivate viewers, and showcase all of the great things Wisconsin has to offer.”
New Host, New Rules
Top Chef elevates the game in season 21 with new energy and twists sure to have viewers on the edge of their seats. Acclaimed Season 10 champion Kristen Kish, chef and partner at Arlo Grey in Austin, seamlessly transitions into the spotlight as the new host, taking the baton from long-time host Padma Lakshmi. Along with Kish, judges Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons will explore Wisconsin’s distinct culinary story,
From her Michigan roots to becoming a culinary star on Boston’s fine dining scene and eventually clinching victory on “Top Chef” in season 10, Kish’s journey has come full circle, bringing her back to the show’s 21st season with rich experience and a fresh perspective. Kish says, “‘Top Chef’ is where I started my journey – first as a competing chef, then a guest judge and now as host I have the honor of helping to continue to build this brand. It feels like coming home.”
Quickfire Challenges are now more thrilling in a refreshing spin, with cash prizes spicing up the stakes. At the same time, the introduction of immunity in the Elimination Challenges cranks up the competitive heat from the get-go.
Beyond Cheese and Dairy
Wisconsin is famed for its dairy—think cheese curds, custard, and dairy cows! Yet, its agricultural richness spans further, embracing sustainable, farm-to-table practices.
Much of the competition will take place in Milwaukee and Madison. Milwaukee often heralded as the “Beer Capital of the World” due to its storied brewing history and vibrant beer scene. The state shines with the largest producer-only farmers’ market in Madison, where the bounty of the state’s agricultural expertise is on full display and builds a direct link between the state’s farmers and its residents.
Seasoned Supper Clubs
Supper clubs are the heart and soul of Wisconsin dining, where everybody knows your name and remembers your favorite dish. These cozy establishments blend a community gathering with the joy of a hearty meal, serving classics like meat, fish, and an array of pickled delights straight from the relish tray. They’re communal, nostalgic, and a throwback to when dining out meant dining among friends.
Cranberry Bogs and Fish Boils
As the country’s top producer, Wisconsin knocks it out of the park with cranberries–sorry, New England! This season, expect Wisconsin cranberries to make their way into competition dishes.
Meanwhile, the fish boil—transforming preparing food into a communal celebration—is unique to regions like Door County. Imagine gathering around a boiling kettle of freshly caught fish, potatoes, and onions- a tradition that epitomizes the Wisconsin spirit of community and good, simple food.
Milwaukee’s Racing Sausages
Iconic racing sausages from the Milwaukee Brewers games are more than just mid-inning entertainment—they symbolize Wisconsin’s love for brats, barbecue, and baseball. This season, they’re inspiring a grilling challenge that’s as much about skill and flavor as it is about embodying the state’s festive spirit and passion for outdoor cookouts.
Mark your calendars for March 20th and join 15 talented chef contestants as they embark on a culinary adventure, celebrating the local flavors and traditions of the Badger State.
