Former President Donald Trump said Tuesday night that if he had been reelected in 2020, the United States “would’ve taken over western Europe,” a remarkable suggestion that did not prompt a follow-up question from a Fox News interviewer.
The moment came Tuesday night during Trump’s final interview as a presidential candidate with Fox News host Sean Hannity just after his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, delivered her campaign’s closing arguments in Washington D.C.
“When you say energy dominate, would you be able to ratchet up production – natural gas, oil, coal – where we could provide all the energy needs to say, Western Europe…and that means Vladimir Putin would be cut off? Hannity asked Trump.

“We would’ve taken over western Europe, oil prices will go down and Vladimir Putin wouldn’t be able to prosecute the war,” Trump said. “Look, when they came in, they screwed up my energy program, and the prices went through the roof and Putin went in.”
Trump continued, saying if he were president, inflation wouldn’t have happened, and oil wouldn’t have “gone up like it did.”
The eyebrow-raising claim about the country taking over western Europe went unchecked by Hannity, but the Fox News host offered pushback on Trump’s statement that under his administration, “You’re going to be able to get a gas-powered car, you’re going to able to get a hybrid, you’re going to be able to get an electric car.”
“They have the freedom, the choice to?” Hannity quickly asked.
