Attorney General Andrea Campbell releases AI advisoryConsumer protection, anti-discrimination laws govern AI use

Artificial intelligence developers who use technology that was created using discriminatory inputs or whose outputs are biased against a protected class could violate Massachusetts civil rights laws, state attorney general Andrea Campbell (D) warned Tuesday.

“AI has been found to generate false information or results that are biased or discriminatory. These deficiencies and instances of poor quality are especially concerning when AI is used for processes that impact consumers’ livelihood, reputation, or economic well-being,” according to an advisory issued by Campbell.
